Obra shadcn/ui Pro: 1.8.0 released
Last month we released an update to our popular Figma community kit — which has 45,000 duplicates by now — as a Pro version. The main update was supporting Figma slots, as well as providing many professionally designed starting blocks (called “Pro Blocks”) so designers can be more productive and ship faster.
We're happy to announce that the commercial release has been a success. With over 100 purchases of the kit, we feel empowered to be spending more dedicated time making the kit the best it can be.
We launched the kit in March with “stepped pricing”: every month, the discount decreases. As more value gets added to the kit, it gets more expensive. This month, you can use code LAUNCHAPRIL to get 50% off the final price. Check out the pricing page for more details.
In version 1.8.0, we worked on having much tighter alignment with shadcn/ui and a code export plugin. shadcn/ui relies on theming variables that are intentionally simple, so they are easy to customize.
The flexibility of shadcn's variables led to projects like tweakcn (not the best visual design example, mind you) and shadcn's very own “create”. The create part of shadcn/ui has evolved over the past few months, becoming the go-to way to kick off shadcn/ui-based projects.
We think many software teams, and even design teams, will start with code using a template initiated via the shadcn/ui create feature, and then only go back to Figma later to refine.
AI has flipped software development — and this is a natural result.

To support this workflow, we tweaked our kit so that it supports a development sync plugin. When a designer makes a change to the their design system, the developer can sync the change to their development project using the plugin.
This is a sort of “skate where the puck is going” moment for our kit: the role of Figma is being redefined, and we want to support the adjacent workflows that are starting to emerge.
